Happiness in the midst of a haze

Sorry for not blogging lately, but have been bogged at work and suffering from haze blues....now having a horrid sinus infection but kept hoping I don't have to see a doctor cos I hate taking his pills (even tho they work - thanks Dr Ho!) But I fear I will have to admit defeat today and go see him later....

Anyway, my beloved Gunners out-played, out-classed and out-scored Reading last night, winning 4-0! Hooray! And my darling Thierry scored twice!!! My happiness is complete! Too bad Manure and Chelski also won their last games, so we have to keep winning, but I think that we're going to be looking down at Manure soon, from the league table point of view....

Looking for commonalities

I'm in a reflective mood today....Have been mulling over this quote I read a couple of weeks ago, made by Bill Clinton. He said something like "What we have in common is more important than the differences" (paraphrased)....which are words we have all heard before, or maybe even used ourselves before. But those words struck me because, frankly, I always thought Bill was a wuss who brought shame on himself and his whole family for that Monica debacle. But after he stepped down, he seems to be using his fame for good. If I recollect, I think he and the older George Bush were going around raising funds for the tsunami victims or was it the hurricane victims? Anyway, guess all that's important is that he's not just sitting there collecting money from his books and speeches....

One of the saddest realities in our world is that we always seem to go around looking at people as "us" versus "them". Our neighbouring countries are "them" who are potential/actual economic or political rivals who may go to war with us at a moment's notice; people of a different faith or colour are "them" who think and act differently from us; even people who follow a different football team are the poor misguided "them" who are doomed to follow a team which will always be lesser than "our" team....

Maybe what we should all try to do more often is to look for what commonalities we share? We are all living on the same planet, does it really matter what faith or belief (or lack thereof) we have, so long as that belief teaches us to be good and to do good? And the poor misguided souls who follow the "wrong" football team (eg Manure), we can pray that their team improves (:-P) while admiring them for their loyalty and fervour....and we can all celebrate great goals scored by great strikers.

I don't pretend to practise what I'm preaching all the time, but I guess we can all aspire to be better than who we are, and make the moments of life count....
