Where have I been?
My latest obsession is watching Korean dramas...which is pretty amazing considering that I've never been into watching Asian shows or even many TV shows, except for Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, House, Gray's Anatomy and X-Files (eons ago). But K dramas are ADDICTIVE, even when their plots are predictable. eg....
Main protagonists and would-be lovers will be introduced within 10 minutes. Almost inevitably, sparks will fly and they won't like each other. Then slowly, over the course of about 4-5 episodes, they will start falling for each other. But COMPLICATIONS will arise, either from some ex-lover, some misunderstanding etc. But by the 14th episode (they usually last between 16 to 24 episodes), the LOVE DECLARATION will be made....but still, they won't get together and there will be more complications, either potentially FATAL ILLNESS, OVERSEAS posting, or even better, JAIL sentence! The lovers will then be separated (after much crying...Korean men cry! Swoon!) and the viewers will be left in suspense until the last 5 minutes of the last episode, whether they'll ever get back together. Almost always (so long as both lovers are still alive), they'll meet again and reunite, kiss, and the end credits will roll....
Predictable, right? but oh so addictive! So don't wonder where Heather has been...she's still here, just glued to the TV!
