Poem for a little one
You were loved ere we held you
Believing it was God’s grace
In anticipation we waited
To meet you face to face
You smiled in all our visions
You danced in all our dreams
How eagerly we waited
To hold you in our arms
As the day drew nearer
The hours grew so much longer
As impatiently we waited
To feel you in the real
All our hopes and visions
All our love and dreams
The promise of a lifetime
Are now, too soon, ended
Dear God, why?
The question we endlessly wonder
Did we move too quickly?
Or did we move away
From Your own sweet will for us?
We wait for your reply
The pain now we feel
Of a love that ended so soon
Before a life can truly begin
The hurt must one day end
All we can do now is wait
All we may do now is pray
That Your promise to answer
Abundantly, our hearts’ desire
But if it’s not Your Will
Then Your grace we truly need
For no other being can fill
The void in our hearts and lives
Believing it was God’s grace
In anticipation we waited
To meet you face to face
You smiled in all our visions
You danced in all our dreams
How eagerly we waited
To hold you in our arms
As the day drew nearer
The hours grew so much longer
As impatiently we waited
To feel you in the real
All our hopes and visions
All our love and dreams
The promise of a lifetime
Are now, too soon, ended
Dear God, why?
The question we endlessly wonder
Did we move too quickly?
Or did we move away
From Your own sweet will for us?
We wait for your reply
The pain now we feel
Of a love that ended so soon
Before a life can truly begin
The hurt must one day end
All we can do now is wait
All we may do now is pray
That Your promise to answer
Abundantly, our hearts’ desire
But if it’s not Your Will
Then Your grace we truly need
For no other being can fill
The void in our hearts and lives
