Lost in Singapore

Working late on Tuesday night

Sigh...... I really need to get a life.....

Bali 06

Here are a couple of pics taken when I was in Bali recently. A group of us went diving to see mola-mola and manta rays. Didn't see no mola nor manta, but we had a great time anyway. I LOVE Bali, and I've decided to make it my annual pilgrimage! It is truly a lovely place and the Balinese are some of the friendliest and sweetest people I've met on my travels.....so sad that theyare suffering from economic problems just cos some folks like to blow things up for some stupid reason.

The Pain and the Pleasure

Woke up at 330am today....to face the devastating news that Arsenal crashed 1-0 to Man City! Words fail me!!! The Gunners totally fell apart! Sigh..... Ah well, we will rise again and win the rest of our matches for the season and lift the Cup in May....

Yup, Heather is having oxygen deprivation. Blame it on the fact that I ran 21 klicks this morning.Oh yah, forgot to say that was the real reason why I woke up at 330am, as opposed to staying up to watch the Gunners' sad excuse for playing footie.... I was taking part in the annual Army Half-Marathon/Sheares Bridge Run. The big thing about this run is that it's the only time in the year that the Sheares Bridge is open to runners.....Apparently 60000 other runners were mad enough to wake up early to run through the streets of Singapore at that time too! Was an okay run. Weather was humid, so was a bit uncomfortable. Also, too many slow runners so I had to weave my way through them, which can be a bit complicated when they're all taller than me and swinging their elbows around like mad! Honestly, someone should teach these people how to run properly! And some people had absolutely no sense of runner etiquette....there was this guy who just pushed past people rudely, don't know why he's in such a rush since there's no way he would have made it to the top 3 finishers anyway!

But still, it was good to see so many people taking exercise seriously in Singapore....despite our famous love for all sort of unhealthy food like Chao Kuay Teow and Chili crabs and durians and beef kuay teow....we also seem to be paying attention to have a healthy-ish lifestyle by exercising!

Unfortunately, running long distances take its toll on one's body...I'm now having aching quads and my toes seem to be complaining about the torture I put them through this morning....and the worse thing is, I know I'll feel even worse tomorrow once the muscles really start to ache! Ah well, the pain is worth the joy of running and seeing the sun come up over the Bridge.....

Love in the future

I was off today, so decided to treat myself to an afternoon movie...oooh, the bliss of enjoying the cool comfort of a darkened movie hall in the middle of the day while 3/4 of the working population is hard at work....

Anyway, I watched "The Lakehouse", a sweet little romantic movie starring two relative unknowns, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock :-) Keanu played an architect in 2004, Sandy a doctor in 2006. Through some wierd time vacuum/glitch thingy, they're able to write to each other by leaving their notes in a letter box at a gorgeous glass lakehouse perched on a beautiful lake (why can't we get such places in Singapore????). Of course, they fall in love (duh!) They manage to share a walk through the city (amazing!), Sandy yearns for a tree and Keanu promptly lugs one all the way over to her place to plant it so that it'll be there when she needs it.....It's a romance, what did you expect?!?!?

Now, I don't know about you, but if I ever start communicating with someone from the future, I know I won't be wasting my time wishing for a tree. I'll be asking him/her for the winning numbers in the 4-D, Toto, Singapore Sweep, you name it for the past 2 years!!! I'll also ask him to tell me who won the world cup so I'd whack on Italy the minute the odds came out!

Does that sound horribly superficially mercernary??? Guess architect scions from famous rich architects and busy doctors (Keanu's and Sandy's characters respectively) don't need the dough... and I guess that's why Sandy gets Keanu while bimbettes like me only get to swoon over him from afar....

Still, it was a nice and sweet movie, and I'd recommend it to anyone who has 90 minutes or so to spare and nothing else better to do.....Guys, take your gals to watch it. They'll come out in a nice romantic mood and you can persuade them to watch an EPL game in return!

My new sexy Samsung x820

I just bought a new Samsung handphone yesterday....Yes, I know I already have too many phones but I just couldn't resist it! It's so slim and sexy (like me :-P) and yet, it has all the functions I need in a phone (camera, mp3 player etc). It's also supposed to be able to read documents, but I can't see why I'd ever want to read a document in a handphone when I can read a real book instead???? The screen is very good and bright, and the keypad is responsive and firm. I hate the tones that came with the phone, but that's easily resolved by loading my own fave sounds in it. Also, I'm still waiting for a phone that has a truly silent keypad! No matter what I do, I still can't get rid of those irritating clicks that come when I'm typing my smses!

Anyway, I got it and now I'm waiting inpatiently for the battery to be charged up so that I can start using it! Think it's going to be an object of envy among my friends and colleagues.....

oh yah, I've posted a quickie review on the Cnet website. Search for it under the product name of Samsung Ultra Edition 6.9 (for those who didn't know, the 6.9 refers to the thickness of the handset in MILLIMETRES!!!!) and see if you can guess which nick did I use to post my review!

Someone commented that my blog seems to be too football-focussed, so I'll try very hard to avoid TOO many posts about my favourite game....but it's a bit hard when the football season just started and I'm football crazy! Arsenal drew with Aston Villa last night...We should have won the game but I think we were very unlucky and the Villa goalie had an amazing night! Still, it's still early in the season and Spurs lost (hahaha!) so we're still on top of them in the league table! The new Emirates Stadium looks absolutely fabulous, but I hate the new Arsenal kit. Think the white sleeves and red vest make them look like school boys! Theo Walcott made his debut in the second half and man! he's going to be an amazing footballer if he fulfills his potential. He's fast, pretty intelligent and a good passer at his age (he's hardly 17 years old!). He helped to create the goal that saved our blushes! can't imagine the degree of humiliation if we lost our first game in the new stadium! Talk about super pantang (Malay for unlucky)! No wonder Wenger grabbed him so quickly and boring Sven brought him to Germany....If only he'd PLAYED him instead of the useless Beanpole and the fragile shorty....

One Day More

Oh yes, the day I've been waiting for is just one day away....The first game of the 2006-07 EPL season will kick off at 8pm (local time) tomorrow! Football season is here again! Hooray!!!!

To my adoring fans out there (all 3 of you!) I've been bogged down at work and went for a dive trip to Bali, so haven't been posting since the end of the World Cup, I know! But Heather is back, alive and kicking, and I promise I'll post more often.....especially after each Gunners game

Go Gunners Go! Wipe the likes of Jose and his Blues up and show them who the REAL champions are!
