Feeling goooood!

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian who exercises 5-6 times a week, go for weekly foot reflexology sessions, regular massages and facials, and go to church regularly (would love to say weekly but I'm not supposed to lie....). I get sick only about 3 times a year, usually the flu when the weather changes. AND I run at least 2 major races a year-the Safra Half Marathon and the Standard Chartered Marathon.

Yet many of my friends are always expressing concern about my diet because I skip lunch (because I get sleepy after an afternoon meal) and eat a lot of chips and chocolates. Well, those are my only vices since I don't smoke or drink or gamble much (hey, donating to Singapore Pools is for a good cause since they give money to charity!) I get very frustrated by such criticism since I really do think that it's important to look after yourself physically to feel good about yourself. So I exercise like a maniac but also go for my regular foot and body treatments to keep my muscles working. Many people don't care about their bodies, eat whatever they want and don't exercise regularly, if at all. If I don't get on their case about their lack of self-care, I wonder at times why they feel the need to get on my case?

I know, I know, they're just showing their care for me, and I really do appreciate it. It just gets boring to keep explaining and being placed in a position of having to justify my diet and exercise choices. I much rather be talking about the state of the world, global warming, politics, the economy, or even what's happening in my favourite TV shows!

Anyway, that's my rant for the day....so if any of my friends are reading this blog, try talking about current events once in a while..."Heather's diet" is not a very interesting topic!

PS = another way to feel good is to buy earrings from this FABULOUS site www.floralbox.blogspot.com I've bought about a million earrings and necklaces from her!

Dumb parents

Saw a sight yesterday as I was walking home from gym that astounded me. A man (presumably the father) was driving with a baby on his lap AND talking on his handphone WITHOUT a handsfree set!!!! Some parents really deserve to have their kids taken away from them! What I find sad is that this is not the first time I've seen parents showing absolutely no regard for the safety of their kids while they're driving....they let them jump around in the backseat unrestrained by either a seat belt or a child seat, they let other passengers carry babies in their arms while the passenger herself/himself is safely buckled in, but this was the first time I've seen the driver doing such a foolhardy thing.

Unfortunately, I was too shocked to note the car license plate or I would have reported the driver to the Traffic Police. This is my plea to all parents and drivers....please please please place children and babies in the appropriate safety seat while they're in the car. It's the law, but more importantly, it's YOUR child. You really don't want to get into an accident and have all the adults come through with minor injuries while the unrestrained child suffer serious injuries or even die.

The Great Divide

this poem is dedicated to a very dear loved one who has just crossed over to eternity.
The Great Divide

Standing across a great divide
I reach for you, but cannot find
How do I touch your hand
Just once again?

I shout your name
Into the uncaring wind
It blows back a cold draft
That touches my very soul

Lord, I want to believe,
A better place do we go
When this world we depart
But faith is tested in the darkest hour
Between dusk and dawn

Only You can hold me together
When all around me crumble and fall
In the raging storm
In the fiery struggle
I stumble

You hear me when I call
You find me when I’m lost
Alone in the fields
Yet surrounded by You

Across the great divide stand I
I cross over
On Your Cross
To the other side

Maelstrom in Myammar

Yah..thought I should just voice out my thoughts on the current situation in Myammar, a country that is just a few hours by air away from peaceful Singapore, yet one of the poorest and most oppressed countries in the world.

Living in a relatively free and democratic society, naturally I'd be biased when I hear about a country that completely disregarded the results of a national election and placed the winner of that poll under house arrest for over a decade! While some folks might say that the Singapore gahmen is equally oppressive by shutting out opposition voices, the fact that idiots like Chee Soon Juan is still walking around yelling mad stuff, clearly show that we in Singapore are still "enjoying" more freedom than those poor souls in Myammar.

I cried when I saw those soldiers or whatever hitting monks and civilians, and shooting innocent people. And I felt proud when OUR Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister spoke out against what the Myammar government is doing. Usually, they are much more restrained and would say things like "we are concerned and monitoring the situation closely"!

I think it's never a good idea for the army to take over the governing of any country, since the tendency of a soldier is to rule by fear and the gun. Just think of all those countries in the world that are currently run by soldiers, or were run by soldiers in the past. Never a good idea, right?

God created us to be free. Let us each spend just a moment now to pray for peace and freedom in Myammar, and all the other oppressed nations of the earth.
